After encouragement from my chiropractor, I explored the idea further, and at the age of 29, I decided that I would undertake the Integrated Bachelors’ Degree in Health Sciences and Masters in Chiropractic, which was offered as a part time course at a college in Abingdon. Being a part-time degree meant that I could carry on working full time (to pay the bills, and for the degree!) but it was a 5.5 year course, which seemed pretty daunting! I decided that the time would pass whether I decided to take the plunge or not, so I bravely went back to the classroom, turned down many social occasions to study, and went back to exam stress and dissertation anxiety for a good few years!
The more I learned about chiropractic treatment the more I was sure this was meant to be, and when it came to working with patients, I realised I could offer more than just chiropractic adjustments, and that I enjoyed being a positive impact helping people to get back to full health, or just to live optimally. I graduated at the age of 35 and am beyond excited at the prospect of my second career working with individuals I can help first hand.
For the last year I have been working in a chiropractic clinic in central Manchester, and have also qualified as a Level 3 Sports Massage Therapist, but have now decided to set up my own business working from the lovely village of Holmfirth.
I regularly suggest to my patients that they take part in Pilates classes to increase their core strength and stability, and so when I saw Mavra at Root Pilates had a room to rent, this fitted perfectly with what I was looking for.
